A celebration of the life of Edna Bond
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edna Bond (née Blackburn). Edna passed away peacefully at Haslingden Hall care home on August 21st, aged 85. A loving wife to the late Thomas and much loved Mum to Angela and Adrian, Edna also leaves her brother Norman and his wife Carol, sister Mavis and her husband Nick, and Angela’s partner Rob.
Married in 1962, Edna left her job as a Tax Officer in Rawtenstall to raise and look after her family. Born in Haslingden, she started married life in Hud Hey and then moved to Rising Bridge where she lived for 57 years before her recent stay in Haslingden Hall.
Edna enjoyed hiking and the countryside generally and spent many holidays touring the UK in their camper van, the Scottish Highlands being a particular favourite. Latterly she holidayed in the Lake District and around Arnside. A long-term supporter of RSPB, Edna enjoyed visiting their sites in these areas. At home, she enjoyed puzzles, gardening, listening to classical, organ and brass band music, and was interested in local and family history, attending local recitals and talks, being a member of the Clef Club and local historical societies. As a regular member of the Church, Edna most recently attended St James’ Haslingden, particularly the Tuesday worship in later years. For some time she helped with the Eat and Meet there.
